Style 3: 16X3.0. Style 1 tires: The number before the dash (-) is the tire section height and tire width, which are the same. The number after the dash is the rim diameter. Style 2 tires: The number before the forward slash (/) is the tire section height. The number after the forward slash (/) is the tire width. And the number after the dash The first of the two numbers is the nominal section width of the tyre. It is given in millimetres and defines the distance between the inner and outer sidewall of the tyre. For example, 205 means that your tyre is nominally 205 mm wide. The second number is the relationship between a tyre’s sidewall height and the tyre's width. The more significant number is the tire diameter in inches and the smaller the tire width in inches; tire diameters typically range from 12 to 26 inches, and tire widths typically range from 1.75 to 2.215 inches. We need to know that road and mountain bikes use different units for named sizes. Use C for road bike and inch (er) for mountain bike. Metric tire sizes are a bit demanding when it comes to understanding what size they really are. Those numbers are only good with the other two. A 33 is a 33 no matter what, but a 265/70/16 is a 30 1/2" tall tire and a 265/75R17 is a 32 1/2" tall tire. The width of the tire is shown in mm (millimeters). In the example above, the number 195 can be seen. This means that the tire is 195 mm wide. The width of the tire can vary from 125 mm to 335 mm. The width always goes in steps of 10 mm.
